Dahai ZHAO’s 56th comments on TV during the pandemic: Countries should make every effort to prevent and control the second wave of COVID-19

Dahai Zhao, a doctoral supervisor at the School of International and Public Affairs of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Executive Director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University-Yale University Joint Research Center for Health Policy, has been interviewed by ShanghaiTV for the 22nd time (the 56nd time by CGTN / ShanghaiTV) since the COVID-19 pandemic. On October 16, 2020, Zhao commented on the second wave of COVID-19 and vaccine supply in Europe and the US on “Global Technology Watch” of ShanghaiTV.

Anchor: What impact will the second wave of epidemics in Europe and America have on the global fight against the epidemic? Before effective vaccines are available, how can countries defend themselves?

Zhao Dahai: The second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic has made the medical and health systems of various countries exhausted. In addition, even if the vaccine can be successfully marketed, the actual supply of vaccines must be very limited before the end of next year, and it is impossible to meet the actual needs of countries. Therefore, countries cannot completely pin their hopes on vaccines, but should adopt strict prevention and control measures, such as mandatory home quarantine, suspension of classes and work. In addition, countries should abandon unnecessary prejudices, fully learn from the experience of successful countries in epidemic prevention and control, and support the concept of a community with a shared future for human health, and work together to fight the second wave of the global COVID-19 epidemic.
